History of the Faculty of Law

Standing in front of the sacred Shahid Minar resembling the sacrifice of the martyrs of the glorious Language Movement of 1952. The Faculty of Law is one of the three founding faculties of the University of Dhaka which started its journey with one Department (of Law) in 1921. From the Language Movement onwards, the students of this Faculty takes active part in all the great movements that shaped the history of the nation. Notably, five students of the Faculty sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh.


Being the pioneer in legal studies in the then East Bengal, the Faculty of Law is the oldest of all law faculties in Bangladesh.
